Description: Thought to be one of the earliest cultivated legumes, the humble chickpea is very versatile - blend it up in a hummus, put it in a channa masala, add it to a tagine or include in a simple salad. Chickpeas roughly double their weight once cooked. To get 250g of cooked chickpeas (average drained can weight) you need to cook 125g dried chickpeas.
Cooking instructions: Soak the chick peas overnight in cold water. After soaking, replace water and bring to the boil in a large pan, then simmer for approx 45mins or until soft. At this point, they can be frozen in batches with some of the cooking water, or used straight away.
